Attraction and Navigation

When looking at website navigation, it's important to see what your projected audience will be attracted to. Designing web navigation (Chapter 1) by James Kalbach discusses how navigation "provides access to information, shows location in a site, shows "aboutness" in a site, and reflects the brand. If someone wants to build a website to promote their business or in my case, a television show, then I need to incorporate these ideas into my creation. Mr. Matthew Marco, a professional web site designer explained to me what some good tips are for website navigation and attractive ideas for my site's targeted audience. Marco explained that every website should have contact information on their sites and to not always share the navigation first. I researched The Tonight Show and The Late Show's websites to evaluate them on these principles learned from the chapter and Mr. Marco. Both had contact information and their navigations were very similar in giving you a "Library" of short clips from their shows which would lead you to more in depth summary's and possible feedback from the audience. Their navigation was different but it had the element of surprise where the audience had to find the information out for themselves. They also had a contact us page on every part of their website but I felt The Tonight Show did a better job of displaying this than the Late Show. However, both had very creative ways of introducing and organizing their content and those elements are examples that I can use when completing my website. Putting the videos first with small titles get's the audience interested in looking up the information they desire.
